Where Maine History Comes Alive! |
The Woolwich Historical Society |
The Woolwich Historical Society offers children’s hours each August. In addition, we are undertaking an oral history project entitled Voices of Woolwich that will include interviews of some of the town’s oldest residents. We are currently working with the Maine Humanities Council to preserve the Civil War letters of two Woolwich brothers, Harlan and Addison Bailey, and uploading them to the Maine Memory Network where they can be accessed by all. |
The Society, in cooperation with the Maine Memory Network, and with the generous support of the Maine Humanities Council, is working to upload the letters of Addison and Harlan Bailey, both Woolwich natives and privates in the Civil War. Neither survived the war. |
The town of Woolwich will have its 250th anniversary in 2009. As part of the celebration, the Society is planning a series of oral histories from the town’s oldest residents, to be compiled into a book entitled Voices of Woolwich. The interviews will also be shown on TV. |
Weekly history lessons in August teach children about particular skills, such as quilting, butter making, rug making, or playing 19th century games with their friends. |
